Adding a new one to its continuous technology-focused investments aiming to increase its productivity, as well as providing the Turkish industry with value-added, high quality steel products, Borçelik has commenced production in the Third Cold Rolling and Third Galvanizing Line, established with a USD 138 million investment. This move gave a 60 % boost to Borçelik's total cold rolling capacity, increasing it to 1.6 million tons from the previous level of 1 million tons; while bringing the hot-dip galvanized steel production capacity to 900 thousand tons / year.
Borçelik, the most modern and largest hot dip galvanized steel producer in Turkey co-managed by Borusan Holding and ArcelorMittal, will particularly meet the needs of construction industry, as well as automotive and white goods industries with this investment, initial decision of which dates back to 2006. The new Galvanizing Line will be able to produce materials with a thickness between 0,25 and 2,00 mm, widths up to 1530 mm, and zinc coating thicknesses between 50 and 350 g/m2 in accordance with the market demand. The Third Galvanizing Line will enable Borçelik to differentiate between taken orders according to customer segments and to have increased flexibility and efficacy in production planning, in terms of optimizations like coating type and coating thickness, and surface quality.
